1 Executive Summary
The way organizations interact with other organizations as well as individuals has changed fundamentally in the past few years. Many more interactions with citizens, consumers, customers, business partners, and, finally, the employees in the age of Work from Home (WfH) are digital. Devices and connected things are common elements in the interplay between organizations and individuals. The Digital Age has become a reality, affecting every sector, from government and military to telcos, finance, retail, manufacturing, and all the others.
Organizations must innovate continuously to cope with changing possibilities, changing requirements, and changing ecosystems. It is not about a simple, one-time Digital Transformation, but an ongoing Digital Journey. Digital Experience and the availability and security of digital services are shifting into focus.
In this journey, digital identities play a central role. Digital interaction is based on digital identities, not only of humans but of devices, things, services, bots, and more. Managing these identities and managing access, thanks to a modern IAM made for the Digital Age, is essential to the success of digital organizations. This IAM is much more powerful than traditional workforce IAM, but also requires an implementation that can quickly adapt to changing requirements and that scales. IDaaS (Identity as-a-Service) allows organizations to implement modern TOMs (Target Operating Models) where responsibilities are split between CSPs (Cloud Service Providers), MSPs (Managed Service Providers), and the tenant organizations.
While there are specific requirements for the various industries and sectors, there are also many common elements within a modern IAM. Delivery as a Service, providing APIs for digital services to consume identity and access management capabilities, scalability, and flexibility to adapt to the needs of the digital organization: all of this is needed across different sectors. Some sectors will require stronger capabilities for managing identities and access for Operational Technology, others have specific requirements on security, e.g., for services provided to citizens. But all require a modern, powerful IAM (Identity and Access Management) that serves the digital journey of these organizations.
This whitepaper identifies key requirements for a modern IAM. It also identifies the capabilities provided by Atos Evidian to cater to the needs of different industries.
